Stauffer Chapel: Sacred Memories, Sacred Place

Stauffer Chapel stained glass - Pepperdine University

Located on the campus of Pepperdine University, Stauffer Chapel sits on a bluff overlooking the wide expanse of the Pacific Ocean.  The beautiful stained glass windows, the simple elegance of the chapel itself, the serenity of the surrounding garden, and the slender cross that reaches toward the heavens attest to a place of quietude and faith at the heart of the Pepperdine Campus.  Stauffer Chapel provides sacred space where many memories are held in sacred trust.  Through the years numerous families have celebrated marriages and remembered loved ones in memorial services within its walls.  Individuals have sought its quiet refuge for private prayer and peaceful solitude.  Students have worshiped and sung praises to their God in the early morning hours, at noontime celebrations, and Sunday night chapels.  Audiences have gathered for lectures and musical presentations, and many have assembled for worship at special times, marking the life of faith that resides within the Pepperdine community.

Stauffer Chapel continues to be a place where faith is expressed at Pepperdine.  Its presence and its services of worship represent the Christian heritage and mission of Pepperdine University.  From early morning until late at night, every day of the year, the Chapel provides a place of prayer, of contemplation, of worship and stands as a symbol of the vital connection between the life of faith and the life of the mind at Pepperdine University.

Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence?  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
Psalm 139:7, 9

I love the house where you live, O LORD, the place where your glory dwells.
Psalm 26:8
