Welcome

Biggers, Mary Jo

Pie and coffee?  What does that have to do with the Associated Women and Fellows for Pepperdine?  Plenty!

In 1958, a handful of women gathered for tea with our organization's founder, Helen Young.  Soon after, over 750 women from 18 regions of California formed the Associated Women for Pepperdine, or AWP.  Today, over 2,500 women and men volunteer their time, resources, and talent to raise funds for Christian student scholarships at Pepperdine University.

AWP has raised over $4 million for the University, representing thousands of hours of dedicated service, set aside for students from the churches of Christ.  Most recently, we presented a check for $264,000 to President Andy Benton made up of AWP donations from the 2009-2010 giving season.  Thank you for your contributions.  All funds raised go to scholarships! They're what we're all about!

So let's return to pie and coffee.  Our dessert sales during the spring 2010 Bible Lectures on campus helped us raise that $264,000!  And we thank you for every hot cup of coffee and every delicious piece of pie you purchased!  By the way, our third AWP cookbook is on the horizon.  Will you please send us your favorite recipe to consider for the collection?

We claim "dedication, service, and generosity" as our motto.  For years now, we have carried the torch set forth by George Pepperdine who committed his life to giving young people an excellent academic education in a Christian environment.

AWP looks ahead for innovative fund raising ideas.  In the 21st century, new challenges have surfaced, distracting many of our young people from pursuing higher education.  We seek men and women to join us in our mission to set students on a path to success--with degrees from Pepperdine University.

Through prayer, generosity, and dedication, we continue in our mission to serve young people desiring to come to Pepperdine.  We invite you to join us.  Even your yearly membership due of $50 quickly adds up to scholarships for fine young women and men who exemplify caring, responsible, deserving Christians.

Ask yourself, "What talents could I share?!  Together, we can and will implement fantastic fundraising events that will, in turn, assist students who want to serve the Lord!

Thank you, Helen Young, for your many years of service and for inspiring us to continue believing that "with God all things are possible."

2010-2011 President
