![]() | How can I become a presenter/speaker on the program? |
Pepperdine's Department of Church Relations receives over 500 requests each year from individuals wanting to be a part of the Bible Lectures. We try to use as many new people as possible, working very hard to achieve geographical, ethnic, gender, and theological balance. Keynote speakers are carefully chosen in early June, with the selection of class teachers beginning soon thereafter.
A brief paragraph or two, emailed to churchrelations@pepperdine.edu, describing your class topic and expertise on the matter is sufficient. Sometimes we pull from two or three years past if the time is right for a specific topic.
![]() | How can I become an exhibitor/vendor at the Bible Lectures? |
Exhibitor space is limited on the Pepperdine campus. We have space for roughly 30 vendors, most of whom return each year. We do occasionally have an opening, so you are welcome to send a brief synopsis of your organization's mission and target audience to churchrelations@pepperdine.edu.
![]() | Is there child care available? |
We do provide child care for the morning sessions and the evening keynote each day. The fee is $5 per child for each time you drop them off.
Hours are:
8:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. for ages 6 month to 6 years
6:00 – 9:00 p.m. for ages 6 months to 11 years
Our child care workers are all part of the Church Relations student worker crew. They are members of the Churches of Christ and request to work specifically with the children. There is outdoor playtime as well as crafts and activities. Our students take pleasure in watching the "regulars" grow up in the child care program.
![]() | What is available for my teenagers? |
Although most teenagers are in school this time of the year, we enjoy hosting an event specifically for the 50+ teens who can attend. The teen program, called Pepperdine View, is hosted each year by two youth ministers within the Churches of Christ. The program is from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and includes guest speakers, group participation, and concerts.

![]() | How do I get around campus? |
The Department of Church Relations employs Church of Christ students with Class B licenses to run shuttles and vans around campus every day from 6:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. We also utilize the University Transit Services drivers to provide enough support. With around 5,000 people on campus for the Bible Lectures, we do our very best to get everyone where they need to be in as timely a manner as possible.
Our campus also provides some of the best walking workouts! Depending on where your on-campus housing is, you can enjoy a brisk walk or slow-paced quiet time back to your room. We don't advise walking to the Drescher apartments, unless you're used to that grueling workout on a regular basis. Water is available at many locations on campus, so please remember to stay hydrated.
![]() | Is there shuttle service to and from the airport? |
Shuttle services are not provided to our Bible Lectures guests, only for the program participants. We have a limited number of shuttles and, due to the number of guests we have on campus, we need as many shuttles as possible staying on campus.
There are two shuttle services that we recommend from LAX: PrimeTime Shuttle and Road Runner Shuttle.
![]() | Can I access the Internet anywhere on campus with my laptop? |
Pepperdine University is a wireless campus, which means you can sit anywhere with your laptop and get online.
- When you open your laptop and attempt to get online, you will be directed to the WavesConnect website.
- Create a guest account by entering your email address and supporting information.
- You will have wireless access for a few days, but can create a new guest account when the old one expires.
![]() | Where can I order recordings of the Bible Lectures? |
Pure Logic Video records all of our keynotes and lectures for purchase during or following the Bible Lectures. They have a table in the Fieldhouse as well as in the Sandbar above the Bookstore. You may also order from their website at www.purelogicvideo.com.
(Prior to 2008, the Bible Lectures were recorded by Gaylor Media at www.gayloronline.com.)
![]() | How many people does it take to run the Bible Lectures? |
The Department of Church Relations, directed by Jerry Rushford, employs one full-time manager, one part-time coordinator, and one part-time temp to make sure the Bible Lectures run smoothly.
Aside from them, we also have:
- 2 to oversee the teen program
- 1 to coordinate Friday's Spanish Program
- 1 to coordinate traffic flow in Smothers Theatre
- 4 in the Print Shop
- 4 in Mail Services
- 7 from Transit Services
- 4 from Presentation Services to oversee audio-visual needs
- 12 Material Handlers who move chairs, tables, and tents around campus
- 4 from the Warehouse crew who deliver and unload blankets, pillows, and linens
- 50 from Sodexo who prepare the meals every day
- 26 in Public Safety who handle everything from unlocking doors to managing medical emergencies
- 79 in Custodial Services who scrub, vacuum, and clean every inch of space on campus
- And last, but not least, 150 paid student workers to help with everything!

![]() | How do I register for on-campus housing? |
Registration for housing begins Tuesday, January 5, 2010. To register you may:
- Fill out the registration form online and pay with a Visa or Mastercard through our secure site.
- Or, tear out the registration form in the back of the Bible Lectures booklet and mail it in with your check (payable to Pepperdine University).
![]() | If a group from our church comes, can we all stay together? |
One of the joys many of our guests experience is staying with a group, whether it's a church group, a family reunion, or just good friends. Depending on what housing option you choose, you may need to register and pay for the whole group or have everyone register individually. Please make sure everyone's registration form says "We want to stay with the Main Street Church (or whatever your group's name is)."
![]() | Do I have to stay all four nights if I stay on campus? |
Yes, please. Room preference is given to those who can stay all four nights. Please be considerate if you are unable to stay the whole week. Housing fills up quickly and we don't want to turn someone away who can stay all four nights if someone else is only staying two.
![]() | Can I arrive earlier or stay later? |
Since Pepperdine graduation takes place the Friday before Bible Lectures, we need as much time as possible to get everything cleaned and ready for our guests. Therefore, housing is not available until Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.
And, since summer school begins the Monday following Bible Lectures, we need every minute to prepare the campus for our students. Therefore, everyone must be moved out by Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
![]() | Can I bring my RV? |
You certainly may! Our RV Lot has gained popularity and many regulars have been setting up in the same spot for years.
Generators may run during the day between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. There are no hook-ups but fresh water hoses are provided in the far corner of the lot. Showering facilities are available for our RV guests in the Firestone Fieldhouse. (Please provide your own soap and towels.)
![]() | Where can I stay if I don't want to stay in student housing? |
The Villa Graziadio Executive Center, which has a beautiful hotel located on the Pepperdine campus, begins receiving reservations for the next Bible Lectures almost as soon as the last one finishes. You may contact the "Villa" at (310) 506-1100 or visit their website at www.villagraziadio.com. Please let them know you are a guest of the Bible Lectures.
There are also a variety of hotels in Malibu or in the surrounding area within a 15-minute drive. We recommend many of the hotels in Calabasas, Agoura or Agoura Hills, and Thousand Oaks.
![]() | Can I get a refund if I'm unable to attend? |
Refunds are not available. If you are unable to attend due to an emergency, you may request that your fees be considered a gift to the Associated Women for Pepperdine, which provides scholarships for students from Churches of Christ.
