Time magazine's June 14, 1937, edition reported that "...George Pepperdine was bubbling with plans for a new enterprise to be called George Pepperdine College..." at the corner of 79th and Vermont. Barely 20 miles north in Burbank, Warner Bros. Studios was casting B-actor Ronald Reagan with Errol Flynn in Santa Fe Trail, while Daffy Duck made his debut in the animated cartoon short, Porky's Duck Hunt.
