Pepperdine University to Host Week of Peace, Hope, and Justice

The Pepperdine Volunteer Center[BROKEN LINK] and Intercultural Affairs will present the Week of Peace, Hope, and Justice from Monday, January 16, to Friday, January 20, when the community will engage the topics of social justice and equity.

This year’s theme, “Stories,” will encourage individuals across campus to celebrate their stories, and to gain exposure to those of others.

The week will begin on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, also the National Day of Service, honoring King’s legacy of hope and reconciliation by working with Voices of Refugees, a Project Serve partner based in Anaheim. A group of Pepperdine community members will travel to Orange County to spend time with people that have recently moved to the United States.

The rest of the week will include sessions to hear guest speakers and engage in conversations on issues surrounding the criminal justice system, race in America, and the current political climate.

“We believe that, in part, injustices exist when we choose not to see the value and importance of another’s story,” says Allie Bergeron, Pepperdine Volunteer Center Student Affairs intern. “This week is about honoring individual narratives, as well as an opportunity to acknowledge the interconnectedness of our stories. Every voice is valuable and every story should be told.”
