President Emeritus Andrew K. Benton Coauthors Op-Ed on the Importance of Higher Education in COVID-19 Recovery


In a recent op-ed for University Business President Emeritus Andrew K. Benton and Meredith College president Jo Allen Higher highlight the crucial role of higher education on the front lines of innovation for the public good. 

While Benton and Allen acknowledge that “every employee and every business” are essential, they emphasize that universities and colleges have a special role to play as the nation moves toward recovery from COVID-19. It is, after all, the college-educated healthcare professionals, creative artists, business insiders, and social entrepreneurs whose talents and expertise will be heavily relied upon to help the world heal from the tremendous changes and losses resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. For this reason, Benton and Allen assess, investing in higher education is more crucial than ever before in bringing a sense of safety and normalcy back to each community.
