Pepperdine Libraries Highlights Diverse Perspectives and Resources in Latest Book Display

Throughout the years Pepperdine Libraries has curated topical and thematic book displays in Payson Library for students, faculty, staff, and guests to peruse relevant topics and find helpful resources. Librarians paired in-person displays with virtual bookshelves, allowing community members to access the resources no matter their location. In June, the Libraries boasted two powerful displays developed in partnership with J. Goosby Smith, Pepperdine’s inaugural vice president for community belonging and chief diversity officer.

"The carefully curated online and in-person exhibits prepared by our librarians and staff aim to highlight books, films, and other resources that celebrate important dates and observances,” shares Mark Roosa, dean of Pepperdine Libraries. “In the coming months, we look forward to continuing to host exhibits that honor a diverse array of holidays, themes, and commemorations."

Following the excitement from the Juneteenth display, which provided rich historical resources for those interested in learning more about the holiday, the Libraries launched its Allyship Resources display. The small yet mighty collection of six titles provides powerful tools to support allyship and inclusivity in every corner of life. Titles featured include Better Allies: Everyday Actions to Create Inclusive, Engaging Workplaces by Karen Catlin, It’s Time to Talk (and Listen) by Anatasia S. Kim, Alicia Del Prado, and Kevin L. Nadal, and Love is an Orientation by Andrew Marin.

As the University anticipates the fall semester with students on campus again, librarians are eager to continue providing critical support to students’ educational experience and foster diverse perspectives and conversations with these carefully curated collections.
