Pepperdine University Launches "For Greater Purpose" Brand Campaign

Pepperdine University launched its dynamic, new brand campaign—For Greater Purpose—which encapsulates the academic institution’s enduring quest to help students discover their Christ-centered vocation, pursue a meaningful life, and create a lasting impact in the world. 

“At Pepperdine, we believe education itself is a sacred calling,” said Pepperdine president Jim Gash (JD ’93), introducing the campaign in a message to the Pepperdine community. “Our calling as an institution is to educate students For Greater Purpose. This is not simply about information but about transformation—the shaping of character, the cultivation of wisdom, and the formation of the whole person for a life that means something lasting. A Pepperdine education prepares you to discover your God-given calling—and equips you to fulfill it.”

Through the For Greater Purpose campaign, the University illuminates its faith-inspired mission and student-centered educational curriculum for the world to see. Across social media platforms, institutional websites, and branded promotional content, the general public can now engage with a series of Purpose Stories—compelling narratives that detail how Pepperdine students, faculty, staff, and alumni are living out the unique part they play as a citizen of the world.

Whether it’s an aspiring oncologist starting her healing ministry, a naval veteran searching for the next mission, or a lawyer seeking to better the care for foster children, For Greater Purpose highlights a broad range of subjects at various stages in their vocational journey. The campaign even includes a personality survey through which interested individuals can discover their own Pepperdine persona

“The For Greater Purpose campaign represents the true heart of Pepperdine, its students, and the community members who make this university distinct,” said Michael Thomas, Pepperdine’s vice president for integrated marketing communications. “We are so excited to highlight the remarkable stories of purpose that are emerging from our campus on a daily basis, and we look forward to helping the next generation of Pepperdine students identify and take action on their own calling through this endeavor.”

As part of For Greater Purpose, Pepperdine is also launching its inaugural social media student ambassador program. Through this initiative, the University is partnering with student ambassadors, who will use social media channels to give the broader public a view into life on campus. This student-driven content will highlight the undergraduate experience at Pepperdine—including the University’s vibrant academic environment, spiritual life, and student activities.

Overall this newest brand campaign will help color Pepperdine’s pursuits for years to come. It was inspired, in large part, by the University’s longstanding mission to prepare students for lives of purpose, service, and leadership. In basing the campaign around this iconic phrase, Pepperdine pays homage to its foundation while it builds boldly toward the future.
