Defying Gravity: The Music of Stephen Schwartz Performance at Smothers Theatre

The Pepperdine University Center for the Arts will host the performance Defying Gravity: The Music of Stephen Schwartz at Smothers Theatre in Malibu on Tuesday, February 2, at 8 PM.

The performance stars Tony Award winners Ben Vereen and Debbie Gravitte, along with Scott Coulter, winner of the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs Award. The nationally recognized vocalists will celebrate the songbook of composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, whose work in musical theater has earned him multiple Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, and a Tony Award.

Ben Vereen, Gravitte, and Coulter will sing songs from Schwartz’s hit Broadway shows Pippin, Godspell, and Wicked, as well as the animated films Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The show includes renditions of “Magic To Do,” “Just Around the Riverbend,” “Two's Company,” “West End Avenue,” “Meadowlark,” “As Long As You're Mine,” “In Whatever Time We Have,” and of course, “Defying Gravity,” among others.

Ticket prices range from $25 to $45, and all seating is assigned in advance. For additional information about the performance, and to purchase tickets, visit the Center for the Arts website.
