On Wednesday, March 8, the global Pepperdine community will unite to give back during Give2Pepp, the University’s inaugural giving day. Building upon Pepperdine’s time-honored tradition of generosity, the University community is invited to join together to support future generations of Waves with an enduring gift. Give2Pepp will span 37 consecutive hours, honoring the University’s founding in 1937 and allowing for global participation in international time zones. The primary goal of Give2Pepp is to strengthen the student experience by gathering support for academic programs and student life opportunities, thus elevating the value of their degree as alumni.

Participants far and wide are encouraged to support the causes most meaningful to them by giving to the Pepperdine programs and initiatives that have made an indelible impact on their lives. Opportunities for giving range from funding student scholarships to research initiatives to meals for recent School of Law graduates taking the bar exam.

Cynthia Ware, director of the Pepperdine Fund, shares her enthusiasm for this new Pepperdine tradition. “After two years of preparation and planning, we are so ready to make this dream come alive! We believe that thousands of alumni, students, family, and friends of Pepperdine are ready for their voices to be heard. Lives are changed for the better at Pepperdine, and that is a cause that deserves ongoing investment.”

Thanks to the generosity of a select group of donors, gifts will multiply in impact through various matches and challenges. With their $50,000 gift to the Center for Applied Research at the Graziadio School of Business and Management, newly installed dean Deryck J. van Rensburg and his wife, Rozanne, will challenge 200 Graziadio School alumni and friends to join them in supporting research at the business school. Gifts designated to the Center for Applied Research will help develop values-centered leaders and advance responsible business practice through scholarship.

Pepperdine Athletics will also get in on the action on March 8. With the “Bonus Pool Competition,” five athletic teams/programs will be challenged to generate the highest number of donors in order to be awarded bonuses. The team/program in first place will be awarded $5,000; second place will be awarded $4,000; third place will be awarded $3,000; fourth place will be awarded $2,000; and fifth place will be awarded $1,000.

The Seaver College Instagram Challenge will also add an interactive social media experience to the momentous day. Instagram users with public accounts are encouraged to demonstrate in photos why they give back to Pepperdine by using the hashtag #Give2Pepp. The user with the most “likes” by 5 PM PST on March 8 will have the chance to designate a $3,500 gift towards a Seaver College initiative of their choice.

On the Malibu campus, the Student Philanthropy Council under the direction of Seaver Class Giving Officer Angela Kappus will host activities, including games and giveaways, at Mullin Town Square during the day and into the evening.
