Howard Jean-Denis Discusses Importance of Diverse Faculty in Higher Education | Good Morning America
On October 9, 2021, Howard Jean-Denis, assistant professor of strategic management at Seaver College, appeared on Good Morning America to discuss the importance of diverse representation in education settings, particularly for recruitment and retention rates of young men of color.
The segment discussed that while classrooms are the most diverse they’ve ever been, the National Center for Education Statistics reports that teachers of color account for two percent or less of full-time professors in higher education. As part of the PhD project, a non-profit organization focused on helping people of color attain their business PhD and become the business professors to mentor the next generation of leaders, Jean-Denis shares that encouraging diverse faculty may begin to improve retention.
Jean-Denis received his PhD from University of Massachusetts Amherst. A native of Haiti, US Army veteran, award-winning entrepreneur, triathlete, and strategic management researcher, Jean-Denis’ research focuses on corruption and humanistic philosophies from the African diaspora perspective.
