Pepperdine Libraries to Host The Vinyl Frontier Film Screening and Talk with Director Daniel Zana

The Vinyl Frontier graphic featuring a collection of vinyl toysOn Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 10 AM in the Payson Library Surfboard Room, Pepperdine Libraries will screen The Vinyl Frontier, a documentary from director Daniel Zana, as part of the Art-Toys exhibit from artist Brian McCarty currently on display in the Payson Library.

Zana’s film explores the cult world of vinyl toy designers that combine toys and artistic expression in an entirely new format. This new “vinyl frontier” has garnered obsessive interest from collectors and developed a new understanding of an object’s artistic and commercial value. The film is a comprehensive look at the vinyl art movement. Following the film screening, Zana will share his experience in making the film and be available to answer questions about the world of art-toys.

The Art-Toys photography exhibit from Brian McCarty also brings a new perspective to the vinyl toy and art landscape. McCarty’s work as a photographer, art director, and producer transports toys into real-life scenarios. His pieces are a masterclass of forced perspective that has been exhibited by galleries and universities across the nation.
