Pepperdine Libraries Hosts "SIS." Exhibit from Artist Rikkí Wright

Piece from Rikkí Wright's photography series SIS.Beginning August 23, 2021, the Pepperdine Libraries is hosting a new exhibition featuring a photograph series from Los Angeles-based photograph Rikkí Wright. The series, titled “SIS.” explores Black sisterhood and how it affects the development of personal agency and will run through November 7, 2021.

Through her work, Wright analyzes the unique sibling relationship in all of its complexities. The images—featuring real-life sisters—investigate the experiences of compassion and competition, love and jealousy, and indescribable joy all within a sisterhood relationship. Along with her photos, the libraries will also present one video from Wright’s work and a writing wall that allows guests to write reflections on their own close relationships that contributed to feelings of sisterhood.

To celebrate the exhibit, the libraries will host an opening reception and artist talk with Wright on Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 4 to 5:30 PM PT. The event is open to Pepperdine students, faculty, staff, and invited guests. Off-campus visitors should contact Pepperdine Libraries to request special permission to attend.
