Pepperdine Receives $1 Million Gift for Student Scholarship During Annual Giving Day
Pepperdine University has received welcome news of a $1 million gift from an anonymous Pepperdine parent to establish a new student scholarship at Seaver College. Made during Pepperdine Gives, the University’s annual giving day, the gift contributed to a record-breaking year of generosity.
“As a parent of a Seaver student, it is very meaningful for me to be able to make a Pepperdine education possible for young people who are highly capable and motivated to succeed,” the donor said. “I look forward to meeting the scholarship recipients and hearing their stories. It is my privilege to make this gift.”
“We are grateful for this gift, which affirms Pepperdine’s enduring commitment to investing in our students,” says Lauren Cosentino ('97, MBA '12), vice president for advancement and chief development officer. “This new student scholarship will further ensure that our students continue to be prepared intellectually and spiritually to reach their greatest potential and to uncover their greater purpose.”
All gifts made during Pepperdine Gives contribute to the University’s For Greater Purpose campaign, an unprecedented $1 billion campaign centered on student success as whole persons, equipping them to uncover their God-given callings so they are fully prepared to make lasting impacts in their lives.
Throughout this year, other benefactors driven by Pepperdine’s academic excellence and faith-driven mission have made generous gifts in support of educational opportunities. In addition to this new scholarship, the Michael Gose Honorary Endowment was announced this July, another student scholarship in honor of Michael Gose (MA ’75), professor of education who launched Pepperdine’s Great Books Colloquium 40 years ago.
Similarly, Bob (’73) and Jane Bland recently gifted Pepperdine University $1 million for an endowed professorship in orchestral conducting to further cultivate students’ musical talents. University friends George and Yuko Uyseugi donated $1 million to establish the “William ‘Woody’ Matthews, George and Yuko Uyesugi Japanese Studies and Cultural Endowed Fund” to allow Seaver’s International Studies and Languages Division to expand Japanese educational opportunities in Malibu.
