Pepperdine Stands Out In NCAA Data

The Pepperdine University Department of Athletics continues to stand out in the latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report, which the national organization released on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014. 

The Waves boast an overall GSR rate of 91 percent, better than the national average of 84 percent (which is an all-time best since the NCAA began tracking the statistic). The newest GSR data covers student-athletes that enrolled between 2004 and 2007.

Nine of Pepperdine's 14 programs enjoy GSR rates better than or equal to the national average for their sports. Eight of the Waves' programs have 100 percent GSR rates: baseball, women's cross country/track, men's golf, women's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's volleyball and women's volleyball.

The Waves also do very well compared to their peers. Of the 24 Division I schools in California, Pepperdine's rate of 91 percent is tied for fourth place overall. The West Coast Conference rates very highly overall, and the Waves are one of seven member schools that are at or above 90 percent.

The NCAA began compiling these figures with the entering freshman class of 1995 and developed the GSR in order to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The GSR includes transfer students and removes student-athletes who leave in good academic standing. The GSR measures graduation rates over six years from initial college enrollment.
