Pepperdine University to Participate in Global #GivingTuesdayNow Event

#GivingTuesdayNow - Pepperdine UniversityIn partnership with GivingTuesday, the groundbreaking annual global generosity movement, Pepperdine University will participate in #GivingTuesdayNow, an international day of giving planned as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by the coronavirus pandemic, to be held May 5, 2020. The online-only event will invite and encourage Pepperdine Waves around the world, as well as GivingTuesday’s global network of leaders, partners, communities and generous individuals, to join together in solidarity and experience the power of human connection.

According to Allissa Thompson, assistant director of the Pepperdine Fund, “This day is not about the dollars raised but the collective impact of a community that remains connected by shared sacrifice and a commitment to serve those at the very heart of our mission: the students.”

The global day of action will provide Pepperdine alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and friends with the opportunity to make gifts either to any of the five schools’ Student Emergency Funds (including Pepperdine University Athletics) or to each school’s greatest need, which will be allocated toward corresponding Dean’s Excellence Funds or to the Athletic Director’s Excellence Fund.

“This initiative is designed to allow us, the Pepperdine family, a tangible way to assist fellow Waves during this unprecedented time,” said S. Keith Hinkle (JD ’97), senior vice president for advancement and chief development officer, adding that “we will get through this stronger together.”

As described by the University’s message that “Together we help, together we give, together we heal,” participating in #GivingTuesdayNow will unite the Pepperdine community in a shared mission to overcome an international crisis and provide a welcome reprieve from social distancing.
