Pepperdine University Ranks Number 41 in Kiplinger’s 2016 Best College Values

Pepperdine ranked in multiple categories in Kiplinger’s 2016 Best College Values list released today.

In the newly released numbers, Pepperdine ranked number 41 out of 100 public and private four-year American institutions of higher education in the Top 100 Values in Private Universities category, 10 spots above its 2015 ranking of number 51. Pepperdine also ranked number 142 out of 300 in the full 2016 Kiplinger’s Best College Values list.

Introduced in 1998, the rankings highlight public schools, private universities, and private liberal arts colleges that combine outstanding academics with affordable cost.

According to the publication, rankings are determined after a list of 1,200 public and private four-year institutions nationwide is narrowed down by measures of academic quality. Kiplinger, using measures of cost and financial aid, then ranks qualified institutions. Quality criteria account for 55 percent of total points, and cost criteria account for 45 percent. Criteria include competitiveness, graduation rates, academic support, cost and financial aid, student indebtedness, additions, and exclusions.

“We start with a universe of 1,200 schools, so each school on our rankings, from number one to number 300, is a best value,” said Janet Bodnar, editor of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. “Families can use the list as a starting point and then tailor it to each student’s preference for such things as size, location, campus culture, and major.”
