Philosophy Professors to Debate Christian Principles amid Academic Interests

Tomas Bogardus and Michael BrentTomas Bogardus, assistant professor of philosophy at Seaver College, and Michael Brent, assistant professor of philosophy at University of Denver, will engage in a debate to address the question “Are Christians closed-minded?” at Elkins Auditorium on Wednesday, March 27, at 6 PM.

Bogardus and Brent will explore Christian principles as they pertain to secular academic pursuits, and examine whether accepting the authority of the Bible or a church impairs critical thinking abilities. The two professors will also analyze whether academic freedom becomes limited when Christian colleges require additional faculty members to agree to religious statements or creeds.
