School of Public Policy Presents Fall 2017 Policy Intensives with Practitioners Series
Throughout the fall 2017 semester, Pepperdine School of Public Policy will host the Policy Intensives with Practitioners Series—a set of half-day workshops
focusing on timely topics in law and government. All sessions will take place on Fridays
at Drescher Graduate Campus, from 10 AM to 2 PM.
This semester’s program will include:

Emergency Management & Homeland Security
Guest speakers:

This workshop will explore contemporary and emerging 21st century challenges posed by natural, technological, and human-caused disasters, and how governmental and nongovernmental organizations, as well as the private sector, address these challenges. Discussions will focus on philosophical and practical positions related to the implementation of local, state, and federal emergency management and homeland security policy, leadership, and management.

Understanding the Law and Environmental Policy

John N. Matthews Professor of Law, University of Notre Dame
Environmental regulations influence the decisions of businesses, communities, and governments alike. This session will examine how these regulations work and what they seek to accomplish. The discussion will begin with an overview of the history of environmental policy, focusing on the laws that emerged from the environmental movement of the 1960s and 1970s. It will also focus on California's environmental regulation as the state continues to chart a course that is much more ambitious than the federal government and other states.
All workshops are open to the public. Professional development credit is available for current School of Public Policy students. Admission is free and tickets are required to attend.
