Seaver College Announces Online Instruction for the Spring 2021 Semester
In an announcement to the Seaver College community on Friday, January 8, 2021, Dean Michael Feltner announced the college will continue with online instruction in the spring 2021 semester. The announcement includes information on the academic calendar, communication initiatives, and possible return-to-campus timelines should COVID-19 conditions in Los Angeles County improve.
While the academic calendar remains unchanged, Dean Feltner announced that thanks to the collaboration with the Student Government Association (SGA), classes will not be held on Good Friday, April 2, 2021, and Easter Monday, April 5, 2021, to allow students a brief spring recess.
Additionally, Seaver College has begun implementing new communication initiatives to keep all students and their families abreast of college updates. Initiatives include notifications and text messages to student mobile devices through the Navigate platform, weekly announcements on SGA social media feeds, and upcoming college Town Halls for students and their families to ask questions and receive updates.
“As shared by President Gash in the December Town Hall, it remains our goal to return students to the Malibu campus as soon as it is safe and we have been granted the regulatory approval to do so,” shared Dean Feltner.
In the event that COVID-19 conditions improve and L.A. County allows students to return to campus, Dean Feltner detailed return-to-campus timelines which will allow students three weeks to prepare their return to campus. Should the college resume in-person instruction and student residential living, all students will not be required to return to campus. All courses will allow for a mixed delivery format so students may continue to engage with their curriculum uninterrupted regardless of their location.
