TV Host Alexander Heffner to Lead Public Policy Lecture

Alexander Heffner, host of the PBS television program The Open Mind , will lead the discussion “Reflections a Year Later: Politics, Media, and the Future of the Trump Administration,” at Drescher Graduate Campus on Monday, November 6, at 6:30 PM.

On the eve of the one-year anniversary of the historic 2016 presidential election, Heffner will examine what the last year has to teach us about American citizenship, democracy, and public policy. He will explore the promise and reality of an outsider candidacy-turned-presidency, the state of Congress, and the potential of a reform agenda. He will also analyze what specific actions have strengthened or undermined faith in civil society and democratic rule.

PBS’s The Open Mind is a thoughtful excursion into the world of ideas across politics, media, technology, the arts, and all realms of civic life. Premiered in May 1956, The Open Mind was designed to elicit insights into the challenges Americans face in contemporary areas of national concern. Heffner began hosting the show in 2014. In addition to his work on The Open Mind, Heffner has written for The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and USA Today, among others. He has been interviewed about politics and education by PBS, C-SPN, CNN, and BBC, and is a frequent speaker on college campuses across the United States.
