W. David Baird Distinguished Lecture Series Presents Political Communication Expert Erika Franklin Fowler
The Seaver CollegeW. David Baird Distinguished Lecture Series at Pepperdine University presents political communication expert Erika Franklin Fowler, who will discuss “Attacks, Anonymity and Anomalies: Political Advertising in the 2016 Election,” at Elkins Auditorium in Malibu on Wednesday, October 26, at 5 PM.
Fowler is an associate professor of government at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and codirector of the Wesleyan Media Project, which tracks and analyzes all political ads aired on broadcast television in real-time during elections.
She specializes in political communication, local media, and campaign advertising in particular, and her work on local coverage of politics and policy has been published in political science, communication, law/policy, and medical journals. Fowler has secured $2.3 million in grants supporting both the Wesleyan Media Project and her research on health policy.
Prior to her time at Wesleyan University, she spent two years as a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in Health Policy Research at University of Michigan, and five years as research director of the University of Wisconsin NewsLab. Fowler is the coauthor of Political Advertising in the United States. She also serves on the ABC News Election Night Decision Desk.
