Pepperdine Celebrates Alumna Lynn Williams’ Olympic Achievements

Lynn WilliamsMALIBU, California – Pepperdine University recognizes and celebrates Lynn Williams, a forward on the US Women’s National Team (USWNT), who was a key competitor on Team USA that won the gold medal in their final match against Brazil at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games on Saturday, August 10. The 2015 Waves alumna played in every game and scored the final goal in Team USA's 4-1 group stage victory over Germany on July 28. She also played a vital role in helping the team earn a bronze medal in the 2020 Olympics.

“On behalf of all of us at Pepperdine University, I want to congratulate Lynn Williams and the entire US women’s national soccer team,” said Pepperdine Director of Athletics Tanner Gardner. “Lynn was an exceptional player at Pepperdine and she has continued to excel at the global level. We are incredibly proud of her historic accomplishments and the example she sets for future generations of Waves.”

During her time at Pepperdine, Williams scored 39 goals, the second-most all-time at Pepperdine, including 15 game-winning goals. She was an All-American first team selection in 2014.

Her professional career has been equally impressive. Williams stands as the National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) all-time leading scorer, with 79 goals over 10 seasons, and has claimed four NWSL championships. She was named the 2016 NWSL MVP. Recently, Williams won the 2023 NWSL Championship with her current team, Gotham FC.

“What an amazing opportunity and honor it is for Lynn Williams to be a part of Team USA”, adds Head Coach of the Pepperdine women’s soccer program Tim Ward. “It’s hard to think of someone who is more deserving of every honor she receives. If you know Lynn and the kind of woman of character she is off the field, you would understand why she is so loved on it.”

Williams’ success defines the commitment to excellence that Pepperdine encourages in all its athletes. Additionally, a number of other Pepperdine former athletes and current coaches are competing in the Paris Olympics, leaving their impact on the global sports arena.
