A Modern Look Exhibition Opens at Pepperdine’s Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art

MALIBU, California – Pepperdine University’s Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art presents A Modern Look: Selections from the Permanent Collection, which is on view from January 16 through March 29, 2026.

The exhibition brings together a selection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures from the museum’s permanent holdings. Spanning from the early 20th century through the postwar decades, A Modern Look offers a cross-section of styles associated with the modern and late modern periods.

“I hope visitors leave the exhibit with an enhanced appreciation for the many facets which together have shaped modern art over the decades,” says Mark Roosa, Dean of Libraries at Pepperdine University. “The Weisman Museum’s outstanding collection is uniquely positioned to tell the story of this important period in art history.”

Rather than presenting a single theme, the exhibition invites viewers to experience the broad scope of modern artistic experimentation. Key movements such as abstraction, pop art, and color field painting are represented, as well as later works that emphasize perception, structure, and artistic process.
