Supervisors of Student Employees

Student Employment offers a wonderful opportunity for supervisors to accomplish their department goals while giving students valuable out-of class learning opportunities. As a student employee supervisor, you are an important part of the campus community and your work is greatly appreciated. To enrich the student employment supervisor experience, the Student Employment Office has created the below training schedule with additional topics that will be added throughout the year. Supervisors are strongly encouraged to attend one of the below trainings.

EMPLOYING A PEPP STUDENT: SUPERVISOR ESSENTIALS

Whether you are new to supervising or a seasoned supervisor this training will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel as a Student Supervisor at Pepperdine. This training will review supervisor expectations, the student hire process, timecard approvals, on boarding best practices, and tips for supporting student employees virtually. Collaborate and learn from other supervisors across departments in this engaging session.

CREATING AN ACCESSIBLE WORKSPACE

Join Pepperdine's Office of Student Accessibility in a discussion of creating accessible workspaces and environments for student employees with disabilities. We will explore how Pepperdine's commitment to belonging includes students who may think, process, create, interact, or learn differently in the workplace. Please come with questions and experiences to share.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION WITH STUDENT EMPLOYEES

Conflicts with employees are inevitable. Join Associate Director of Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Stephanie Blondell, as she leads us through tools, techniques, and strategies in resolving conflicts with student employees.

Associate Director of Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine Caruso School of Law

Professor Bell earned her Bachelor of Arts in American Civilization with Honors from Brown University, and her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law. She supervises the Mediation Clinic, and teaches Mediation Theory and Practice and Psychology of Conflict. Prior to joining Pepperdine, Professor Blondell spent over a decade designing and managing public sector dispute resolution programs with a focus on labor, employment and public policy disputes in the Seattle area.
