Supervisor Trainings

Supervisors of Student Employees

Student Employment offers a wonderful opportunity for supervisors to accomplish their department goals while giving students valuable out-of class learning opportunities. As a student employee supervisor, you are an important part of the campus community and your work is greatly appreciated. To enrich the student employment supervisor experience, the Student Employment Office has created the below training schedule with additional topics that will be added throughout the year. Supervisors are strongly encouraged to attend one of the below trainings.

Pepperdine GROW

Pepperdine GROW uses brief, structured conversations between student employees and their supervisors to help students connect the skills and knowledge they are gaining in the classroom with the work they are doing, and vice versa. Pepperdine GROW is focused on making student employment a "high-impact activity" - one that requires students to reflect on their learning and connect their learning within and beyond the classroom.

In RelateStrong you will learn:

  • How your life experiences drive your approach to navigating challenges
  • How to remain calm and nonreactive through trials
  • Strategies to build a healthy team culture
  • Four-step pathway for conflict resolution

RelateStrong supports all people in learning how to have healthier relationships, with colleagues, friends, children, and family. In this workshop, you will have opportunities to discover how past pain can show up in conflict with others, learn how to meaningfully connect through these moments, and utilize tools available to develop greater mutual understanding. RelateStrong is built on a foundation of theology and Restoration Therapy – a Marriage and Family Therapeutic Model.
