The Pepperdine Volunteer Center runs this program with Hand in Hand and Lisa Szilagyi at the Malibu Jewish Center. The program provides teens and young adults with special needs an opportunity to socialize, learn new skills, and have fun.
One of the biggest challenges for children with special needs is to find appropriate programs that provide the support they need as well as opportunities to expand their world in a safe and fun environment. With activities such as music therapy, arts and crafts, play, and structured social interaction with other children, both with and without special needs. The program is built around three main components: music therapy, hands-on activities, and community service.
Pepperdine students provide positive examples and encouragement for each person in the program. Volunteers help teach and encourage the group to grow and develop greater independence and skills
