Pepperdine Volunteer Center Holds 28th Annual Step Forward Day
Pepperdine Magazine is the feature magazine for Pepperdine University and its growing community of alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends.
For the 28th consecutive year, Pepperdine University students, alumni, faculty, staff,
and friends joined together to participate in Step Forward Day, the University’s annual
day of service, on September 10.
More than 1,500 registered volunteers served with over 75 community partners across
Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, as well as across the nation and internationally,
to serve a collective 4,500 hours. Step Forward Day is a simple yet significant way
for the Pepperdine community to connect with local neighborhoods, impact the lives
of others, and celebrate the University mission.
“From its humble beginnings, Step Forward Day has grown into an event that connects
the Pepperdine community in a unique way,” said Justin Schneider, assistant director
of the Pepperdine Volunteer Center. “Our hope is, as the name implies, that this is
just the first step of service this year towards a year of connecting to local communities
and serving however each person can.”
The Pepperdine Volunteer Center also hosted a volunteer fair at Alumni Park on the
Malibu campus, where participants enjoyed food and music and spent time reflecting
on their day of service at designated stations.
