The Yellow Boat Opens at Lindhurst Theatre

Pepperdine Magazine is the feature magazine for Pepperdine University and its growing community of alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends.

The Pepperdine University Fine Arts Division Theatre Department presented David Saar’s play The Yellow Boat at Lindhurst Theatre in Malibu from September 27 through October 1.

The Yellow Boat is a glorious affirmation of a young boy’s journey and the strength and courage of all children. Based on the true story of Saar’s son Benjamin, who was born with congenital hemophilia and died of AIDS-related complications in 1987, The Yellow Boat is an exploration of the power of imagination and art’s ability to transform lives in the face of overwhelming obstacles—all told through the eyes of 8-year-old Benjamin. It is a profound play of imagination, hope, and love, as well as a vibrant celebration of life for all ages.

Pepperdine visiting assistant professor of theatre Scott Alan Smith directed the student cast, which featured Noah Archibald, Addyson Culpepper, Jacquelyn Ferguson, Dylan Forehand, Tara Jenkins, April Rock, Andreon Watson, and Reed Williams.
