Symposium Addresses Solutions To Healthcare System Problems

Pepperdine Magazine is the feature magazine for Pepperdine University and its growing community of alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends.

The Graziadio School of Business and Management hosted the Future of Healthcare Symposium, a gathering of healthcare CEOs, senior executives, and policy advisors, in March. Corporate and pharmaceutical industry leaders focused their presentations on the future of healthcare, changes to the system beyond the Affordable Care Act, the impact to payers, and needed improvements including affordability and quality.

The symposium also examined challenges to providing high-quality patient care, including the increasing cost of drugs, and the role scientific and technological advancements continue to play in ensuring the health of the population.

Speakers included Susan Dentzer, senior policy adviser for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; Steve Collis, president and CEO of AmerisourceBergen; Dr. John Agwunobi, former senior vice president and president of health and wellness at Walmart; Mark Morgan, president of Anthem Blue Cross; Thomas Priselac, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Health System; and Dr. David Feinberg, president and CEO of UCLA Health System, among others.

“Whether you’re in the field of healthcare or not, this is information we all need to be familiar with. Healthcare continues to be one of the largest growing industries in our economy, and our students have increasingly shown interest in gaining a greater understanding of the field,” said Gary Mangiofico, associate dean of executive programs and executive professor of leadership and management at the Graziadio School.
