Pepperdine School of Nursing Programs Approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing

Nursing students work on a patient

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the Pepperdine University College of Health Science School of Nursing received approval from the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Entry Level Master’s in Nursing, Clinical Nurse Leader (ELM-CNL) programs. This approval marks the final milestone in establishing Pepperdine’s nursing programs and positions the University to be among California’s most respected institutions for nursing education. The announcement is a testament to the perseverance and hard work of the Pepperdine community and reflects a deep commitment to the School of Nursing’s mission; to be a leading force in transforming healthcare by developing compassionate leaders who excel in academic achievement, scholarship, and clinical practice.

“Today is a historic day for Pepperdine. I'm thrilled to have worked alongside dean Angel Coaston, College of Health Science faculty and staff, and our many University and external partners in achieving this outcome,” shared Michael Feltner, founding dean of the College of Health Science. “I am eager to see the impact our nursing graduates will make in the lives of their patients as well as in healthcare systems across Southern California and beyond. May their lights shine brightly and bring honor and glory to our Lord.”

Coaston, the founding dean of the School of Nursing, also shared her gratitude for this momentous occasion and emphasized that Pepperdine’s Christ-centered approach to education will inevitably play a role in shaping compassionate, skilled, and purpose-driven leaders in the field of nursing.

“I am grateful and in awe of this significant moment for Pepperdine University," says Coaston. "I want to thank God, my children, and my friends for their unwavering encouragement throughout this journey of establishing the School of Nursing. My deepest gratitude goes to dean Michael Feltner, the Pepperdine leadership, and the Board of Regents for their steadfast support and for believing in this vision from the very beginning. To our clinical partners, thank you for believing in Pepperdine and choosing to partner with us without hesitation and with excitement. From the very beginning, this nursing program has been envisioned as a place of excellence in education, devoted to transforming lives through Christ-centered, compassionate care. Pepperdine’s School of Nursing is both a calling and a mission, deeply rooted in a passion for God and a compassion for people.”

Classes for Pepperdine’s nursing programs are scheduled to begin this August. For more information on the nursing programs, visit the College of Health Science’s official website.
