Authors Charles Marsh and John M. Perkins to Explore God and Social Justice at 2018 Veritas Forum

Charles Marsh and John M. Perkins, coauthors of the book Welcoming Justice: God's Movement Toward Beloved Community, will address the question “Does God Care About Justice?” at the 2018 Veritas Forum hosted by Pepperdine University’s Office of the Chaplain. The discussion will be held at Elkins Auditorium in Malibu on Tuesday, March 27, at 7 PM.

The speakers will model lived theology and represent an interdisciplinary project that emphasizes theology, history, and social leadership. Their coauthored book, now in its seventh printing, is the result of a partnership between InterVarsity Press and the Center for Reconciliation at Duke Divinity School. The material seeks to offer a fresh and distinctive vision for reconciliation as God's mission and a journey toward God's new creation in Christ.

Marsh is the commonwealth professor of religious studies and the director of the Project on Lived Theology at the University of Virginia. His research interests include contemporary Christian perspectives, the relationship between religion and justice, and celebrated German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Perkins is a minister, civil rights activist, Bible teacher, and philosopher. He is the founder and President Emeritus of the John & Vera Mae Perkins Foundation in Mississippi and the cofounder of the Christian Community Development Association in Illinois. He holds 14 honorary doctoral degrees from various colleges and universities across the nation, and has served under five United States presidents.

The goal of Pepperdine University’s annual Veritas Forum is to encourage and promote a deeper understanding of faith through a collective exploration of basic truths about God and humanity.

For those unable to attend, the event will be broadcast live via Livestream.
