Personal Electric Transportation Policy

Pepperdine University prohibits students from the use, storage, or charging of any personal electric transportation (PET) device on any university campus or in any university facility due to fire and pedestrian safety concerns. Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action.

Personal electric transportation devices can facilitate transit around campus. However, PET devices can pose significant risks to campus buildings and the University community in the following ways:
1) The batteries in PET devices can overheat when charging and may start fires.
2) Use on sidewalks and walkways may result in collisions between users and pedestrians
resulting in injuries.
3) Lack of or improper use of appropriate personal protective equipment could result in
injury.

This policy is designed to apply to all currently existing and yet to be developed personal electric
transportation devices, including, but not limited to:
● Self-balancing scooters
● E-scooters
● E-bikes
● E-trikes
● E-skateboards
● E-unicycles (eWheels)
● Segways
● Hoverboards

Housing and Residence Life staff will enforce this policy within student residences. Public Safety will enforce this policy within academic buildings and around the Malibu campus with assistance from faculty and staff. Violations may result in warnings, fines, confiscation of the device, or other disciplinary actions as appropriate.
