Pepperdine Celebrates 2016 Commencements
Pepperdine Magazine is the feature magazine for Pepperdine University and its growing community of alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends.
Pepperdine recently hosted commencement ceremonies for the Graziadio School of Business
and Management, School of Public Policy, Seaver College, School of Law, and Graduate
School of Education and Psychology.
At the Graziadio School of Business and Management commencement, which took place
April 16, an honorary Doctor of Business degree was bestowed upon Raymond W. Smith,
founding partner of Arlington Capital Partners and chair of Rothschild Continuation
Investments and Verizon Ventures (formerly Bell Atlantic).
Los Angeles County supervisor of the Fourth District Donald R. Knabe delivered the
commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Public Policy degree at the
School of Public Policy commencement on April 22.
Michael K. Powell, former chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), delivered
the commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree
at the Seaver College commencement ceremony on April 30.
At the School of Law commencement ceremony, held May 20, the University bestowed an
honorary Doctor of Laws degree on distinguished attorney Linda A. Klein.
On May 21, Michelle King (MS ’92), the newly elected superintendent of the Los Angeles
Unified School District (LAUSD), delivered the commencement address and was presented
with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at the education ceremony at the
Graduate School of Education and Psychology commencement. At the psychology ceremony,
Reverend Andrew J. Bales, CEO of the Union Rescue Mission in downtown Los Angeles’
Skid Row, delivered the commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Laws
degree.
