Event When and Where Description
RISE and Rest Yoga Tuesdays | 4:30-5:20 PM | HITS Studio Each week, join RISE yoga instructor, Kat Ibarra, for a time of resilience-yoga and mindfulness. All levels of experience and capabilities are welcome, and attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat/towel.
Crafternoons Every Other Tuesday (beginning on January 28, 2025) | 2-4 pm | The Light House Do you like crafts? Do you want a relaxed space to just be around others and enjoy the company of being alone together? Crafternoons are the place for you! Join RISE and the Counseling Center for a time of peaceful crafting and resilience. There is paper, origami books, coloring pages, color pencils, friendship bracelets, and crayons available. Feel free to bring your own crafting projects (knitting, sewing, cross stitching, painting, etc.) if you'd like as well! A RISE representative and staff from the Counseling Center is available at every session.
RISE Comfort Knitting Circle Tuesdays | 6-8 PM | Faculty/Staff Dining Room Join RISE and Dr. Kelle Marshall each week for a comfort knitting circle. Dr. Marshall teaches how to knit and shares about the benefits of knitting and how this mindful activity can expand our capacity to move through difficult and heavy seasons. Knitting supplies and snacks are also provided.
RISE Yoga Retreat (spring) April 19, 2025 | 10 AM-2 PM | The Light House Students, faculty, and staff come together for a rejuvenating day of yoga and resilience hosted by RISE. The event offers a chance to unwind and explore the powerful impact of yoga on both the mind and body. Participants could drop in or step out as needed.
Prayers and Pizza April 10, 2025 | 12-1 PM | Lower Adamson Plaza [RISE Together event] Students stop by the RISE table to take part in a spiritual activity -  writing a prayer and/or taking a prayer! RISE provides a slice of pizza for all participants.
Caring Cards and Cookies April 3, 2025 | 12-1 PM | Upper Adamson Plaza [RISE Together event] Students stop by the RISE table to write cards to Pepperdine employees to express appreciation for these amazing workers who do so much for our campus. RISE assists in the delivery of the cards, and cookies provided to all those participating.
Lemons and Life Skills March 27, 2025 | 12-1 PM | Lower Adamson Plaza [RISE Together event] The RISE Together Chapel groups introduce and expand on ways to improve important life skills such as time management, technology discernment, and financial management. Students pick up some helpful worksheets that will take them a step further in building these crucial skills. In addition, lemonade is handed out to all those who grab a worksheet and participate. When life gives you lemons, make life skills!
Social Resilience Lunch and Learn March 20, 2025 | 2-3 PM | BPC 189 RISE hosts a lunch and learn focusing on the social dimension of resilience, and lunch provided for those who register for the event.
Serenity Stop-By March 20, 2025 | 12-1 PM | Upper Adamson Plaza [RISE Together event] Students stop by the RISE table to grab serenity prayer bookmarks and cards. A perfect reminder of what we have control over. Mini bundt cakes also provided.
Physical Resilience Brunch and Learn March 18, 2025 | 10-11 AM | AC 286 RISE hosts a special brunch and learn focusing on the physical dimension, and SunLife provided to those who register for the event.
Track Talk and Walk March 13, 2025 | 11 AM - 12 PM | Track [RISE Together event] Attendees join RISE and Outdoor Rec for a 15 min walk or run on the Pepperdine track. The event allows participants to get moving in the middle of a busy school week and is also a double mileage event for the PCT competition.
Bridling and Befriending Stress Lunch & Learn March 12, 2025 | 1:30-2:30 PM | BPC 189 Hosted by RISE faculty member Dr. Carrie Wall, attendees learn about what stress is and how to healthily handle it while also reflecting on the cognitive dimension of resilience. Mendocino Farms provided for those in attendance.
Love Language Workshop February 27, 2025 | 12-1 PM | Lower Mullin Town Square [RISE Together event] In this tabling event, RISE and Relationship IQ help students identify their love languages and teach students how knowing their love languages helps build intentional relationships. This can help build friendships with peers in college and social resilience.
Resilience in Action: Alumni Insights on Career Success February 26, 2025 | 5:30-7 PM | Light House Building a career comes with its challenges–whether it’s job searching, interviewing, or adjusting to a new role. Students join RISE and the Career Center for a conversation with alumni about how resilience can help navigate your career, and students gain practical tips for their own journey. Sharky’s burritos provided to attendees.
Learning & Memory in the Classroom and Beyond Lunch and Learn February 26, 2025 | 12-1 PM | BPC 190 Hosted by RISE faculty member Dr. Janet Trammell, attendees learn about the process of learning and the tools to do so while also reflecting on the cognitive dimension of resilience. Mendocino Farms provided for those in attendance.
Board of Blessings Lunch and Learn February 11, 2025 | 12-1 PM | HAWC 200 Focusing on the spiritual dimension of resilience, attendees learn about the importance of knowing that God is with you, the eternal nature of time, and gratitude, and then spend time making prayer/vision boards and being in community with one another  Chipotle provided for those who register.
Mourning, Rising, and Meditation February 7, 2025 | 5-7 PM | AC Patio Graduate students join RISE and the Hub for Spiritual Life for a time of meditation and fellowship. Sharky’s burritos provided to those who register.
Mind Your Health, Jeopardy Game February 5, 2025 | 7-7:50 PM | HAWC 200 To celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, students join RISE and Pepperdine Athletics to test their knowledge in areas such as women in sport, resilience, pop culture, and more. Sharky’s burritos provided for the first 30 attendees.
Supporting those Struggling with Mental Health Concerns Lunch & Learn February 4, 2025 | 12:15-1:15 PM | CCB 140 RISE and the Counseling Center host an educational presentation about how to help loved ones who are struggling with mental health and irrational thoughts. Attendees learn some new social and cognitive resilience skills, and catering provided from Mendocino Farms.

 

Fall 2024

  Cocoa and Cram

December 2-3, 2024 | 2:30-3:30 PM | West Los Angeles and Irvine Campuses

Graduate students enjoyed two Lunch & Learn events hosted by RISE, one at the West Los Angeles campus and another at the Irvine campus. Both events featured engaging discussions, with Crumbl Cookies and hot chocolate served to make the experience even sweeter. Students gathered to learn and connect while enjoying delicious treats, making it a cozy and enriching way to spend the afternoon.

  Hike to the Cross

November 23, 2024 | 3-7 PM | Baxter Drive

Graduate students gathered for a peaceful and reflective Sunset Hike of Gratitude, hosted by RISE and Campus Rec. The hike to the Cross at the Malibu campus was filled with gratitude exercises, allowing participants to reflect and appreciate the journey. Attendees enjoyed a custom Chipotle dinner.. The event provided a beautiful opportunity to embrace resilience across physical, cognitive, spiritual, and social dimensions in a serene setting.

  Brain Waves

November 20, 2024 | 7-8 PM | The Fireside Room

Students had a blast at Brain Waves, a fun night of trivia hosted by RISE and Pepperdine Athletics. The event brought the community together for some friendly competition, covering topics like wellness, resilience, Pepperdine, athletics, and pop culture. The first 40 attendees enjoyed free Sharky’s burritos, and winning teams walked away with exciting prizes. It was a night full of fun, learning, and prizes!

  RISE Yoga Retreat

Students, faculty, and staff came together for a rejuvenating day of yoga and resilience hosted by RISE. The event offered a chance to unwind and explore the powerful impact of yoga on both the mind and body. Participants could drop in or step out as needed, creating a flexible and welcoming experience. First-year students also earned points for the House Cup, making it a rewarding and enriching experience for all.

  Navigating Changing Relationships with Parents Lunch and Learn

November 15, 2024 | 2:30-3:30 PM | BPC 188

Students joined RISE and Relationship IQ for an insightful session on navigating change in parent-student relationships during college. The event offered valuable advice on maintaining strong connections while adjusting to the college experience. The first 15 attendees enjoyed delicious Mendocino Farms sandwiches.

  Gender Sexuality Alliance Crossroads x RISE Blanket Making

November 14, 2024 | 6:30-7:30 PM | Fireside Room

GSA Crossroads, in collaboration with RISE, hosted a blanket making event. All the blankets were donated to a local charity, and RISE hosted a presentation focusing on how service builds resilience.

  Neurodiversity Student Association x RISE Friendsgiving

November 13, 2024 | 6:30-7:45 PM | AC 280

NSA, in collaboration with RISE, welcomed their members to build community and learn social skills while dining over a Thanksgiving-style meal. RISE hosted an interactive presentation where attendees were able to reflect on areas such as getting the conversation started, listening well, and care for our community.

  Intentional Movement and Healthy Hydration Lunch and Learn

November 13, 2024 | 12-1 PM | BPC 189

Students joined RISE for an informative session on being intentional with movement and staying healthy through hydration. The event offered valuable tips on maintaining physical well-being while participants enjoyed delicious Chipotle.

  Gratitude for Great Friends

November 7, 2024 | 10:30-12 PM | Waves Cafe (in front of Nature’s Edge)

[RISE Together event] Students stopped by RISE's table to show appreciation for their Pepperdine friends by writing heartfelt notes of gratitude. The event created a space for positivity and connection, with the added treat of delicious Crumbl cookies to sweeten the moment. It was a wonderful way to spread kindness and celebrate the friendships that make the Pepperdine community special.

  Mindful Time Management Lunch and Learn

November 4, 2024 | 6-7 PM | The Fireside Room

Students took part in a Mindful Time Management Workshop hosted by RISE in partnership with The Seaver Student Success Center. The session provided valuable tips on managing time effectively while maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Attendees enjoyed a relaxing and informative evening, with delicious food from The Stand to fuel their learning experience.

  Kits of Kindness

October 30, 2024 | 11-2PM | Lower Mullin Town Square

[RISE Together event] Students came together for an afternoon of service with RISE & Community Engagement and Service, assembling care kits for our unhoused neighbors. The event provided a meaningful opportunity to give back and make a positive impact. First-year students who participated also earned House Cup points, adding an extra incentive to this act of kindness and community support.

  Pumpkins and Pizza

October 29 & 31, 2024 | 12-1 PM | Caruso School of Law and Drescher Graduate Campus

Graduate students gathered for a fun and reflective event, engaging in pumpkin painting, sharing stories, and exploring resilience through social and service connections. The atmosphere was filled with creativity and connection, as attendees also took a moment to write a note to someone who brightens their world. The first 15 participants were treated to free pizza, making it a delightful and meaningful experience for all who joined.

  Malibu Moves

October 27, 2024 | Zuma Beach

In the spirit of building physical resilience, RISE sponsored a limited number of Pepperdine community members to participate in the Malibu Moves 5K and Half Marathon. Students, faculty, and staff of all experience levels embraced the opportunity to engage in movement and challenge themselves. The event fostered a sense of community and personal growth, making for an inspiring and active experience along the beautiful Malibu coastline.

  Live Love Life Skills

October 24, 2024 | 11-12 PM | Mullin Town Square

[RISE Together event] Students took a step toward mastering essential life skills at RISE’s Adulting Table, where they picked up helpful worksheets designed to support their personal growth. Those who participated and grabbed a worksheet were treated to delicious mini Crumbl cookies, making the experience both educational and rewarding. The event provided a fun and interactive way to build crucial skills for adulthood while connecting with the RISE community.

  Adulting Bingo

October 23, 2024 | 6:30-8 PM | Mullin Town Square

Students gathered for Adulting Bingo, RISE’s annual big fall event, for a night of games, stories, tacos, and incredible prizes. Participants faced their fears about adulthood in a fun and engaging way while competing for exciting prizes. The event fostered connection, laughter, and a sense of community. First-year students also had the chance to earn points for the House Cup, making it a memorable and rewarding evening.

  Balancing and Building Resilience

October 10, 2024 | 10:30-12 PM | Lower Adamson Plaza

[RISE Together event] Students put their physical resilience to the test at the Tree Pose Challenge at Lower Adamson Plaza. The event encouraged balance, focus, and strength in a fun and engaging way.

  Strengthening Connections & Managing Conflict

October 3, 2024 | 5-6 PM | The Fireside Room

[RISE Together event] Students came together, in collaboration with Relationship IQ, to explore ways to nurture friendships and build resilience through empathy. The interactive discussion provided valuable insights on healthy communication during conflict, fostering deeper connections. The first 25 attendees enjoyed a meal from Mendocino Farms.

  RISE 101: Gifts of Gratitude

September 25-26, 2024 | Calabasas and Drescher Graduate Campuses

Graduate students had the opportunity to learn more about RISE at special events held at the Calabasas and Drescher campuses. The gatherings provided a space to connect, engage with RISE’s mission, and participate in a fun flower bouquet-making activity. The first 15 attendees enjoyed free Mendocino Farms, making it a refreshing and enriching experience for all who joined.

  Serving Forward Lunch and Learn

September 25, 2024 | 2:30-1:30 PM | AC 286

Students explored how to use their gifts and talents to serve their community. The session provided valuable insights on making a meaningful impact, fostering both personal and collective growth. The first 15 registrants enjoyed free Chick-fil-A, adding an extra treat to an inspiring and engaging discussion.

  Navigating Friendships Lunch and Learn

September 24, 2024 | 12:30-1:30 PM | The Fireside Room

Students gathered for an engaging conversation on navigating friendships. The event provided a welcoming space to discuss relationships, share experiences, and learn new ways to foster meaningful connections. Attendees enjoyed a meal while connecting with others, making it a valuable and enriching experience.

  Friends and Influence

Students took part in Friends and Influence, an interactive workshop hosted by RISE, Intercultural Affairs, and the Hub for Spiritual Life. The event focused on fostering meaningful relationships through engaging discussions and activities. Attendees had the chance to connect with others, earn House Cup points, and enjoy delicious catering from Prince Street. With dinner reserved for the first 25 participants, the evening was both enriching and rewarding.

  Labor Day BBQ

Students came together for a laid-back evening of BBQ, lawn games, and giveaways, hosted by RISE and The Board. The event offered a fun, casual atmosphere for everyone to relax, enjoy delicious food, and connect with friends, making it a perfect way to unwind and kick off the week.



Summer 2024

  Thai Food and Trivia

July 10, 2024 | 5:30-6:30 PM | The Light House

Students gathered for a fun-filled evening of Thai Food & Trivia, hosted by The Board, HRL, and SWAB. The event offered a delicious meal and lively trivia competition, creating a great atmosphere for friends to connect and enjoy some friendly competition. With tasty food and exciting challenges, it was a memorable night of fun and community.

  Summer Bingo

June 14, 2024 | 5-6:30 PM |Seaside Courtyard

Students tested their luck at Summer Bingo, a fun-filled evening hosted by The Board, SWAB, HRL, and RISE. The event brought together great company, exciting prizes, and delicious food, creating the perfect summer atmosphere. Participants enjoyed a lively game night, connected with friends, and played for a chance to win big, making it a memorable way to celebrate the season.

  Summer S’mores and Camp Craft

Students kicked off the summer vibes at a bonfire night, hosted by RISE, The Board, HRL, and SWAB. The evening was filled with delicious food, fun games, s’mores, and exciting giveaways, creating the perfect atmosphere to relax and connect. The event brought students together for a memorable night of community and summer fun under the stars.
