What are the benefits of being in the RISE Interest Community?

If accepted into the RISE Interest Community, you will receive guaranteed housing in Seaside, and The Housing Office will handle your placement (using the roommate group you may have created) for the upcoming academic year - removing the stress on housing selection day. RISE will also host an ice cream social for all RISE Interest Community members to meet.

You will be able to move in one day early with your community which will feature a welcome basket (including fun items to aid you on your resilience journey) and a special welcome dinner! You can look forward to specialized resilience-focused programming. RISE will host six resilience workshops throughout the year that will feature guest speakers and will include meals and opportunities for continued connection. The dedicated RISE Interest Community Resident Assistant will also hold community-building events. Examples from past years include hikes, cooking activities, service projects, study groups, worship opportunities, game nights, and group meals.

Additionally, you will get priority registration to RISE events, such as the annual RISE Summit and Adulting Bingo. The RISE Interest Community also features a Step Challenge each September that you can choose to participate in. All active participants in the Step Challenge will receive a free smart watch in order to track your steps throughout the month (or another technology item if you already own a smart watch).

Testimonials

RISE logo

My experience with the RISE interest community has been very special. It is reminiscent of our first-year housing where all the students are giving together, growing in the same ways as college. After our first year in college, all students go their separate ways in terms of living situations, leaving them to grow in their college experiences independently. Being in the RISE interest community has re-ignited the feeling of growing together. Each person is going through personal situations and experiences. However, in a community with like-minded people who prioritize God and resilience (regardless of how far away we drift from those goals), we physically and metaphorically seek refuge within that community. While the RISE IC keeps us accountable in that way, it simultaneously helps us grow.
