Filming at Pepperdine University

Alumni Park at daybreak - Pepperdine University

Thank you for considering Pepperdine University in Malibu for your filming location.

Located on 832 acres between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Pepperdine University enjoys a picturesque and panoramic view of both.  Commanding views make the Malibu campus a popular location for filming and still shoot photography.

(For simplicity purposes, "filming" will refer to television commercials, music videos, feature films, documentary/educational films, docu-reality shows, video-taping, still photography, digital imaging, and representing a variety of distribution uses.)

Normal University business and previously scheduled University events take precedence over filming in determining location availability. Each location requested will be reviewed individually. Required approval is also contingent on whether the filming project in its entirety is deemed appropriate and consistent with Pepperdine University's image and Christian values. See CONTENT on "Guidelines for Filming" (top left margin).

During the academic school year, most campus areas are in use by thousands of students, staff and faculty members, making it difficult to accommodate filming on weekdays. There are some exceptions, notably Alumni Park.

Generally speaking, campus-wide availability increases during weekends, summer months and breaks between academic sessions. Filming IS allowed on Sundays, with early morning arrival time restrictions in some campus residential areas.

Please be sure to read the "Guidelines For Filming."
All requesters are required to complete the filming "Inquiry Form."

All commercial filming requests are managed by the Office of Special Programs staff and, specifically, its Special Programs Coordinator. The coordinator is responsible for all technical and logistical arrangements pertaining to commercial campus filming including but not limited to: processing the Inquiry Form, reviewing and approving the script and/or storyboards, accompanying production staff during location scouts, coordinating availability and permission to film with University community members affected in the requested location area, negotiating the contract, providing the parking plan, making sure all University requirements are met, processing the fees, supervising the filming as the University's site rep.

A minimum of five (5) full, complete business days is requested between commitment and filming date. Additional lead time is highly recommended, especially considering initial availability research needed for requested locations, scheduling multiple campus locations, and/or when filming will impact large areas used by the University community.
