The University's Alumni Park is the most frequently requested campus filming location by production companies due to its expansive grass-meets-sky horizon line—a rarity in the southland! Its 26 acres of green lawn and trees front the University's private property along Malibu Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway. On paper, Alumni Park is divided into nine sections and each is reservable. There are no lights within Alumni Park so, after sunset, a production company must provide its own lighting.
Note: The dirt road that intersects Alumni Park is a fire road that must be kept clear for emergency vehicles at all times. Only vehicles that have received advance University authorization are allowed inside Alumni Park and very specific placement/parking restrictions will be enforced.
Smothers Theatre, the University's premiere and largest performing arts theater, accommodates audiences of up to 450. A professional in-house technical crew of three to five staff members is on hand for use of the theatre's full scope of technical equipment. A green room, dressing room, restrooms and technical booths are available as is the theatre's orchestra pit, which can adjust from stage level to 8'6" below stage level. Load-in can be at stage level using scene shop at the rear of the building.
Lindhurst Theatre, Raitt Recital Hall
The Center for the Arts is also home to Lindhurst Theatre, a flexible "black box" space used for intimate performances (seating 50 to 100) with limited sets and simple lighting effects. Lindhurst is also used as a rehearsal, backstage/dressing room, studio or lecture space. The Raitt Recital Hall is a lavish facility set up for more personal recitals and music performances. Acoustically superior and intimate, Raitt Recital Hall has seating capacity for 118.
Note: A greater lead time—at least seven vs. five business days before filming arrival date—is required for Center For the Arts locations after client has confirmed this location decision. Tech scout must occur at least four business days in advance of filming arrival date. In addition, there are special guidelines and rental fees unique to the use of CFA spaces, which are covered in detail during the availability research and booking process.
Availability for filming at the University's athletic facilities is extremely limited due to required use by student athletic teams and the University community. Priority for Pepperdine's baseball stadium and track/soccer field are given to Pepperdine teams and community.
Note: Pool and indoor basketball/gym photos are purposely not posted because these facilities are rarely available.
Note: Dorm area photos are purposely not posted because, as student residences, almost all are in use year-round and unavailable for filming (possible exceptions may occur during May through mid-August). If an exception is made, the following will be required: a detailed shooting schedule indicating all areas impacted by the filming including in frame and behind the camera; all measures the production company will take to minimize its impact in this residential area.
