State Department Travel Warning List

Travel Warnings are issued when long-term, protracted conditions that make a country dangerous or unstable lead the State Department to recommend that Americans avoid or consider the risk of travel to that country. A Travel Warning is also issued when the US government's ability to assist American citizens is constrained due to the closure of an embassy or consulate or because of the drawdown of its staff. A list of current travel warnings is available on the State Department's website.

As a policy, Pepperdine University does not sponsor or provide funding for any University-related travel to countries on the US State Department Travel Warning List for a variety of reasons. Schools or departments wishing to sponsor a trip to one of these countries should consult with their dean to gain special approval by the provost and executive vice president. In some cases, the Office of Insurance & Risk will purchase additional insurance policies for trips to countries on the State Department Travel Warning List.
